I'm not a fitness model. I'm not a competitive athlete.
In fact, I'm terribly mediocre at a lot of things.
But I do know a lot about fitness, nutrition and being a mom. I've worked in the fitness industry for over a decade and finally got fed up. Strong Mommas was founded, knowing there had to be a way to pursue a healthy and fit body as a mom, without dragging vanity and obsession into the mix. And there is.

I believe that women deserve to be coached well, told the truth, and carefully guided towards being super strong, deeply healthy and content in their bodies. I aim to steer women away from obsession and guilt, and point them to a lifestyle of fitness that releases them to freedom.

I know what a postpartum body feels like... I know what screaming children sound like in the middle of a workout... and I know what it feels like to hide in a closet and eat chocolate. Been there, done that.

Let me coach you through these challenges and help you experience your body the way God intended you to.

Are you ready?

Hey Megan! I've got questions...

"What are your credentials?" I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. Since then, I have become certified as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the NSCA, the gold standard in athletic performance training. I am also a Certified Coach with Precision Nutrition, which is one of the leaders in nutrition education and coaching worldwide. For fun, I also trained to become a Certified TRX Trainer. I have over a decade of experience training all levels of clients, from professional athletes to post-rehabilitating individuals. Take comfort in the fact that I didn't just decide to become a trainer one day because I liked to workout. I always take a scientific yet practical approach in all things.
"Do you sell products?" Nope. And I prefer it that way. I may suggest some supplements like particular protein powders I like, fish oil capsules, or vitamins and minerals that I believe you might benefit from, but I am not affiliated with any company.
"Do I need to be a Christian to be here?" Absolutely not. Serving Jesus is my personal passion and purpose in life as it is for many other women, and it inspires many of the aspects of Strong Mommas. But if you're not there (yet?) in your life, you'll still find tremendous benefit from the content you'll find here. Workouts, fitness and nutrition tips, and recipes are pretty darn helpful for every woman no matter what your beliefs.
"Do I need to be a mom to be here?" Once again, no. Strong Mommas is geared towards moms because there is a unique challenge that motherhood brings, but that certainly does not exclude other women. The workouts and nutrition tips are beneficial for all women. But, if you are a mom, you'll find particular value in the pregnancy, post-pregnancy, and kid-juggling tips.
"What is your training philosophy?" All the workout programs I design are intended to get you moving your absolute best. Moving well means you're strong and powerful, you have good balance and coordination, your stamina and cardiovascular conditioning are up to par, and your body is resistant to injury. When your goal is to move really well, or function at a high level, you'll be training like an athlete. Yes, you will be doing strength training and sometimes lifting weights to make you much stronger. Yes, you will be jumping, turning, lunging, and pushing to help you become agile and powerful. And yes, you will be working everything, not just your "trouble" spots. Be sure to read more about my training philosophy in these articles: Basic Elements of Program Design, Will Lifting Weights Make Me Bulk Up?, and Why We Don't Spot Train Around Here.
"Do you do personal training or distance coaching?" Yes! If you feel like you need an individualized program or some one-on-one guidance, check out my training site Dahlman Elite Training Systems. I also have a Coaching Call option if you just need to chat with me to get pointed in the right direction.
"This must come easy to you. Do you struggle with health and fitness like I do?" You will be happy to know that it's not easy for me, I just like it! That's the biggest difference. For many women, it's hard AND they don't like it. Yes, some things are much easier now that I've been doing it for so long: foam rolling doesn't hurt so much; I don't get as sore; my workout time is set in stone and pretty automatic; my balance and coordination feels pretty good right now. But, easy is earned. Never forget that. If you want to get to the point where things are a bit easier, where it's not so much of a struggle, you need to earn that. Are you willing to do that?
